Saltimbanco in a monumental arena production
This ultimate acrobatic experience comes to Graz in February!
Since 1984, the incomparable Cirque du Soleil has fascinated an audience of over 100 million spectators worldwide with its highly acclaimed, unique productions. Saltimbanco alone attracted nearly eleven million visitors in 200 towns on all five continents. It is the fantastic voyage of Cirque du Soleil into the heart of a metropolis and its inhabitants. For fourteen years, the gigantic allegory of whirlwind and calm, of top level acrobatic performance and poetry has been on tour worldwide with its large circus tent. Now, Cirque du Soleil has re-staged this breathtaking show of the highest artistic intensity and made it into a monumental arena production. Saltimbanco combines all the characteristics of Cirque du Soleil, such as extravagant costumes, spectacular light and set design, sensational acrobatics and choreography with a brilliant, ethereal, baroque soundtrack.
After its successful performances in Salzburg and Innsbruck, Cirque du Soleil returns to Austria at the beginning of next year. This anxiously expected event takes place between 22 and 26 February in Graz, and the Stadthalle offers, the optimum conditions for a perfect venue.
In this unsurpassed production, 50 acrobats, dancers, musicians, singers and actors from 20 countries explore all aspects of life in a metropolis: as colourful as the people who live there, their idiosyncrasies and similarities, as dizzying as the hustle and bustle of the street and the towering heights of skyscrapers, the powerful and the have-nots side by side. In order to adapt Saltimbanco to the changed requirements, the stage has been elevated and the sound and light design reworked. The audience now has an opportunity to experience an atmosphere similar to that of the classic circus version evening after evening.
To touch peoples' hearts, to fire their imagination and to challenge their senses is exactly the task Cirque du Soleil has set for itself. The unique mixture of acrobatics, music, dance and theatre that Saltimbanco combines in the arena format certainly fulfil these expectations. The colourful blend of highly diverse characters and lavish visual presentation draw the spectators into a dreamlike world of an imaginary, fanciful city where diversity is cause for hope.
After celebrated performances in more than 40 American towns, Saltimbanco returns to Europe in the coming winter in a new, highly impressive format. This year, Cirque du Soleil will present 20 different shows worldwide. The company, located in Quebec, Canada, employs 5,000 people, amongst them 1,200 of the best acrobats from 50 countries.
